GINGER ISLAND
Alice in Wonderland
This is one of the BVI's deeper dive sites and has been named for
the huge mushroom shaped coral heads that feature here. These are
best explored from the sand canyons, be sure to check the ledges
and overhangs carefully for shy critters! This site is one of the
best in the BVI for studying the spur and groove coral formations
and the coral is particularly healthy with giant sea fans and gorgonian
soft corals at the top. This site is at 40 -80 feet and should only
be dived when the prevailing conditions allow as it is exposed to
the weather.
Ginger Steps
This reef goes from 15 feet to 100 feet in three ledges or steps.
There is a brilliant white sand bottom at 100 feet, which has a
multitude of garden eels and some huge conch shells, which are so
old that they have sea whips and sea fans growing out from the shells.
This site is also home to the rare long snout butterfly fish, which
hides under the overhangs.
